The Community and Educational Outreach Arm of The Woodlands Arts Council Presents

The 2016 Dr. David Gottlieb Teacher Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts

The History and Background of the Awards

In the fall of 2009, shortly after the establishment of the Educational Outreach Committee of The Woodlands Arts Council, Dr. David Gottlieb, suggested the establishment of the awards to spotlight the important role that the arts play in education. In the public school setting, teachers of the arts are seldom recognized and often not fully appreciated. His idea was to have a prestigious award that highlighted the extra ordinary effort and dedication of unsung teachers of the arts, bringing attention to the importance of the arts in public schools. He and Fred Castillo personally funded the first awards in 2010.
